Elastic magazine and AFM to host Montreal event this month
Elastic magazine and A Fu*king Magazine (AFM) are set to co-host an event this month in Montreal, Canada. To be held on the 19th of February, Elastic’s editor Hillary Brenhouse and AFM’s Haley Mlotek will discuss the “how and why we make f*cking magazines — the beautiful, harebrained act of putting out print.” The two editors will be in conversation with Arjun Basu, the host of the Magazeum podcast. Held at the Bar de Courcelle – 4685 Notre-Dame O. – the event is set to offer Elastic on sale as well as AFM issue 2. Sälä magazine to launch issue two during Helsinki Design Week
Sälä Magazine is set to launch their brand new issue two this September. The Finnish-origined publication is an alternative design magazine primarily “serving as a mediator,” the team notes on their website. “Our core mission is to provide a platform for emerging designer[s] and creatives, their works, and their ideas encouraging the rethinking of established practices within publishing culture. We aim to advance the field of visual communication by bringing together professionals from the art and design industries and fostering a culture shaped by critical thinking and care-driven innovation.”

San Francisco to host Art Book Fair this weekend
The 2025 San Francisco Art Book Fair kicks off today - Friday 11th July. With over 150 independent exhibitors at the show, some exhibitors have travelled from the likes of Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Nicaragua and many more. For the third year in a row, the fair is presented by the Minnesota Street Project Foundation, a non profit organisation founded in 2019 with the mission to provide “robust support infrastructure and [critical] access to the space and tools necessary for working artists, technicians, and curators to create,” as noted on their website.

A Passion Thing to launch issue 12 with Vienna event
A Passion Thing magazine is to launch issue 12 this week in Vienna, Austria. As described on their website, “A Passion Thing Magazine is a biannual publication about people driven by passion and redefining success.” With issue 12 the team continues their bold and fully refreshed re-design of the magazine but also continues to offer, “fresh perspectives on life, career, and design,” as they note on LinkedIn and the magazine cover itself.

Terra Firma launches issue nine with new London exhibition
Terra Firma magazine issue nine was launched this month in a brand new exhibition named ‘I’m so gay for you’. Hosted at miłość (me-wosh-ch) gallery in London, the group exhibition opened with a private view on Valentine’s Day and continues until the 15th of March 2025.

Solomiya magazine announces new Berlin festival Solomiya Studio
Artist-run independent magazine Solomiya (‘soлomiya’) has announced their brand new festival Solomiya Studio. To be held at KVOST in Berlin, Germany between 5th of February to the 19th of February 2025, the new initiative aims to shed light on the dynamic and distinctive mix of discourses that Solomiya is known for.

Overleaf Year in Review: 2024 Edition
It’s been another huge year for independent print from across the globe and Overleaf has continued to play a small part within the community. In 2024 we saw a lot of new, inventive titles pop-up, whilst established titles launched “best of” collections that celebrate the amazing work across issues. We also saw some titles leave us, including Where The Leaves Fall and Total Film (TF is non-independent but deserves a nod).
