It’s been another huge year for independent print from across the globe and Overleaf has continued to play a small part within the community. In 2024 we saw a lot of new, inventive titles pop-up, whilst established titles launched “best of” collections that celebrate the amazing work across issues. We also saw some titles leave us, including Where The Leaves Fall and Total Film (TF is non-independent but deserves a nod).
There are too many commendable titles for a single blog to cover, however I’ve compiled a “top ten” of magazines I’ve enjoyed across the year – in no particular order.

Overleaf Podcast
After reaching 600 downloads back in the start of 2024, it’s been reaching more and more ears across all channels. At time of writing the final episode of season 1 hasn’t been released yet, but it’s on the way. It features a chat with The Posthumanist magazine’s Editor Anna Nolda Nagele and dives into the nuances of self-publishing.
Episode 9 with the We Are Makers duo Kate and Jack Lennie was a highlight of this year, released back in summer. Their project has gone from strength to strength since the recording and no doubt 2025 will see a lot more from them.
You can listen to this episode and stay up to date with the podcast by following the show over at Apple Podcasts, Spotify or Acast.

Hosting magazine launches
2024 was also the year of three exciting, live hosting events, all celebrating brand new issues of some beloved independent titles. The first hosting event took place on the 29th of April, joining Veruschka Haas on Instagram to celebrate the launch of Letters to Lovers issue 3. A variety of contributors joined us to discuss their pieces and it was a lot of fun.
By the time summer came heiter magazine was on the verge of launching issue 2. Invited to host by Katharina Geissler-Evans, the creator and Editor of heiter, the initial launch event on Instagram was held on the 29th of August. We were joined by Mariá Vioque Nguyen from Hondo Studio, the designer behind both issue 1 and 2, whilst Occupational Therapist Josephine Dolan-Dufourd discussed the importance of the heiter community and their love of print. The same group joined up again for the official launch held on Zoom, Facebook and broadcasted in person in Edinburgh, Scotland on the 30th of November. Contributor Tamzin Merivale also joined us to chat about their background and piece within heiter issue 2.
Best of all, all of the events were free to attend and helped continue to foster communities that come together for the love of print. To hear about future events, follow the Overleaf Instagram.
With the first ever hosting events completed for the year and a whole load of episodes for the podcast lined up, 2025 is set to be another great year for the Overleaf project.
