On The Overleaf Shelf: September 2021
The first edition of “On the Overleaf shelf” features a range of limited edition risograph magazines published in Helsinki, to a brand new re-design of a beloved classic hailing from the BFI. It’s been a crazy summer for publishing, with some popular titles leaving us (‘Scoop’) whilst others thrive with early editions selling out in record time. Fukt magazine issue 19 sees artists expand on the theme of storytelling
Established in Norway in 1999, Fukt magazine has become an indelible format for artists and illustrators to make their mark. Now based in Berlin, the magazine has since released issue 19, themed around Storytelling. Dedicated to contemporary drawing, each issue sits down with artists to discuss their everyday, process and deep dives into their world. From America to Asia, Fukt connects continents and seas with its theme and speaks to a wide range of artists with backgrounds in fine arts, illustration and comics. TIME magazine publishes TIME100 Most Influential People issue
2020 saw the likes of The Weeknd, Gabrielle Union and Amy O’Sullivan amongst others adorn the front cover of TIME Magazine’s Most Influential People issue. TIME regularly finds the time to praise individuals who have made a positive impact within their field, or off the field (Marcus Rashford), in the world today. This past week TIME have announced their 2021 list, featuring the likes of Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin, footballer and free school meals campaigner Marcus Rashford and poet Amanda Gorman. As the pandemic continues to cause countless casualties across multiple industries, we look back at the printed world and the magazines we lost in 2020. It’s been a tough time for printed publications; not only has Covid limited advertising partnerships and sales but they’re also feeling the impact of Brexit – causing exports to Europe to slow or close. Delicate Rébellion’s ‘The (Un)Influenced issue’ pays homage to creatives during these turbulent times
Issue 2 of art and culture showcase Delicate Rébellion (DR) arrives out of the packaging with the back cover facing. Its monogram spot-varnished with a message printed on top reading “oh hey you, The world is a little wild right now, but please never underestimate yourself. Keep going. Keep going.
