Sälä magazine to launch issue two during Helsinki Design Week
Sälä Magazine is set to launch their brand new issue two this September. The Finnish-origined publication is an alternative design magazine primarily “serving as a mediator,” the team notes on their website. “Our core mission is to provide a platform for emerging designer[s] and creatives, their works, and their ideas encouraging the rethinking of established practices within publishing culture. We aim to advance the field of visual communication by bringing together professionals from the art and design industries and fostering a culture shaped by critical thinking and care-driven innovation.”
The second issue is set to be themed around “Contact”, approaching the theme in various angles and the team “are pleased to see how many forms it takes in our magazine,” they comment on Instagram. The bi-annual publication is also featured in the Helsinki Design Week blog, where the founders, Mimosa Tast, Peppi-Lotta Heinonen and Amanda Sandell speak about their mission. The article quotes, “according to Heinonen, the mission of the collective is to make Finnish design more visible. And what Finnish design lacks in particular, is platforms for new and upcoming talent. ‘In Finland we are often leaning onto the heritage of the design grandmasters, but what we could instead do with is a tiered approach for newcomers to be able to show their work,’ Tast agrees.” You can read more here.

The publishing party kicks off on Tuesday 9th September at 7pm, with the venue listed as the Post Bar club in Helsinki.
