Peckham based print studio Sonsoles are currently running a crowdfunding campaign to combat the threat of closure this year. Hosted on Crowdfunder, the ‘Save Our Studio’ campaign is active now until the 29th of September 2023 and includes a range of prizes worth up to £600 via a raffle, amongst other goodies.
The South East London establishment has been running since 2012 and is a cornerstone in their Peckham community. In their crowdfunding email, owner Sonsoles Marquez wrote, ‘Covid-19, the cost of living crisis, gentrification and changes in the digital media landscape have all snowballed into an unmanageable situation. Surviving isn’t an option anymore, we need to make changes that elevate and sustain us.’
Sonsoles are looking to fund a range of improvements in the £12,000 target. These include: A digital printer, new website, equipment upgrades, part-time employee to oversee administrative and marketing projects, marketing campaign budget, studio redesign and build, new studio phone and pending maintenance costs. To help reach the target, the studio is offering multiple raffle prizes from the likes of Supermundane, Dimitri Dzneladze and Emma Fisher. As noted on their email, “there are many prizes to be won from Sonsoles artists and friends of the studio and their contribution makes it clear to see the unique influence the studio has had. Prolific artists such as Supermundane and Vogue columnist Jermaine Gallacher are amongst the artists involved.”
With clients such as Puma, Liberty London, Phase 8, Penguin Vintage Books, Goldsmiths University, London College of Communication and Royal College of Art to name a few, Sonsoles are workshop specialists with a huge and loyal community. On Crowdfunder they wrote, “We believe this crowdfunder will kickstart a new chapter that can provide sponsorship for new members, residencies, a platform for members to showcase their work AND the opportunity to be part of a thriving community. We are currently the only open access screen-printing studio in Peckham and have seen other studios come and go. Community is at the heart of what we do and this is the only reason we’ve come this far. We can’t do this without you.”
