Kinfolk celebrates 10 years in print
“A decade ago, the very first issue of Kinfolk made its way into print,” the Kinfolk website reads. “To celebrate this milestone—our tenth anniversary—we’ve refreshed the design of the magazine and aptly turned our gaze toward one of life’s deepest and most searching subjects: the future.” The reshaped 10th anniversary issue 40 drives forward Kinfolk’s energy into a new era, from the cover inwards. Established in 2004 as a typographic and layout focused web blog, Germany’s Slanted Publishers have since grown into a well-established magazine within the design industry, covering everything from illustration, graphic design, photography and of course, typography. Germany’s ‘Do You Read Me?!’ bookstore opens in Helsinki
Hailing from Berlin, Germany, popular bookstore ‘Do You Read Me?!’ have set-up a new presence in Helsinki, Finland. Reported in Monocle, the press release mentions, “Located in the design-savvy Punavuori neighbourhood, the cosy shop offers a well-chosen collection of books on art, design, architecture and contemporary culture.” Last year saw Berlin’s ‘Do You Read Me?!’ celebrate their 12th birthday. The store (currently online and pick-up only) features a beautiful mix of magazines and books from a wealth of subjects – also some rare books. It’s been a tough time for printed publications; not only has Covid limited advertising partnerships and sales but they’re also feeling the impact of Brexit – causing exports to Europe to slow or close. Weapons of Reason release hardback compendium of the world’s most pressing challenges
It’s been a short but sweet journey for Weapons of Reason, a publication first published in 2015 by London-based design agency Human After All. Eight issues later (the eighth and final issue in the series ‘War Games’ is out now) sees Human After All devise a comprehensive and thought-provoking “best of” collection within the medium of a hardback book. Successfully funded via crowd-funding platform Kickstarter, Weapons of Reason – the hardback edition saw 1,067 backers pledge £27,825 to bring the edition to print. Delicate Rébellion’s ‘The (Un)Influenced issue’ pays homage to creatives during these turbulent times
Issue 2 of art and culture showcase Delicate Rébellion (DR) arrives out of the packaging with the back cover facing. Its monogram spot-varnished with a message printed on top reading “oh hey you, The world is a little wild right now, but please never underestimate yourself. Keep going. Keep going.
